WireNine is a small but ambitious web hosting provider which holds the goal to offer the best web hosting services with 100% uptime. At present, the company hosts less than 1000 websites. Claiming on the official website that they were founded in 2004 and now have over 10 years' experience, the company seems to have been under a slow development.

WireNine uses 3 data centers but they do not own or operate any one. There is no detailed information about the data center facilities or network infrastructures. According to our research, the data center in Southfield, MI is owned by Nexcess; the one in Phoenix, AZ belongs to Secured Servers, and the one in Miami, FL is operated by VPS Datacenter.

The website wirenine.com is hosted on ServInt, a large dedicated server provider. It is reasonable to believe that WireNine just rents several servers in different locations to serve their customers due to the small customer base and limited budget.

Although being a small company, WireNine offers a wide variety of hosting services, including shared hosting, reseller hosting, VPS, managed web hosting and managed WordPress hosting. This review focuses on shared hosting, the most popular service offered by the company.

WireNine Reliability Review 2.00 of 5

WireNine guarantees 100% uptime for shared hosting. Once the shared server you use does not achieve 100% uptime, you are entitled to receive a credit of 5% of the monthly hosting fee for each 30-minute downtime.

Unavailability of FTP and email which does not affect your site's appearance will not be counted into downtime. DDoS attacks, hardware failure and emergent server maintenance are not calculated into downtime, either.

According to our monitoring, WireNine delivers good (but not excellent) uptime at most times, but occasional downtimes are also inevitable. For instance, we detected a 30-minute downtime last night.

WireNine Technical Support Review 1.00 of 5

WireNine technical support is not good, neither the available contact methods nor the responses to support requests. There are three ways for getting in touch with a WireNine staff: live chat, phone and the ticket system, but the former two ways mainly serve pre-sales inquiries instead of after-sales support. What's worse, tickets are usually responded several hours later after a question is submitted.

The company has prepared dozens of video tutorials covering the configuration of webmail, cPanel, WHM, DNS, and the basic terms of web hosting. That's all, and there are no written guides about other technical things like website backups, WordPress optimization or SEO.

WireNine Shared Hosting Plans & Features 2.50 of 5

WireNine offers two shared hosting plans named Basic and Plus. The differences between the plans are explained in below.
  • Basic: Priced at $10/mo for monthly billing and $9/mo for annual billing, including 10 GB storage, 2 hosted domains & unlimited bandwidth, usage restricted to 25% of 1 CPU core/150K files.
  • Plus: Priced at $15/mo for monthly billing and $14/mo for annual billing, including unlimited storage, hosted domains & bandwidth, usage restricted to 1 CPU core/200K files.
Both plans are packed with the following features:
  • cPanel control panel which offers a powerful interface for website and account management.
  • R1Soft backups which perform twice a day and store 7 days' copies.
  • Unlimited email accounts & MySQL databases.
  • $100 Google AdWords credits & a free domain for the first year for annual billing.

WireNine Shared Hosting Advantages 3.00 of 5

WireNine shared web hosting services possess the following advantages.

Stable website speed

Besides offering three data center locations to ensure the maximum speed, WireNine also adopts the following technologies to optimize the user experience.
  • CloudLinux. CloudLinux is a commercial Linux operating system which is designed for stability and performance. The LVE technology brings extra resource usage protection, and the CageFS file system keeps the hosted websites unaffected by bad neighbors.
  • LiteSpeed web server. As the #1 commercial web server, LiteSpeed serves large traffic with the minimum consumption of memory and CPU. It is optimized for the maximum PHP performance.
  • SSD storage. SSDs can be several times faster than ordinary HDDs, with much lower access time and less latency.
  • CloudFlare CDN with Railgun. With CloudFlare CDN, static contents are served faster, and bandwidth is saved largely. On the contrary, Railgun speeds up dynamic website content.
Our monitoring results show that WireNine has stable server response speed, averaging 650ms in the past half a year. See the statistics for the past 24 hours (recorded on June 23, 2015 with Uptime Robot).

WireNine Server Response Time

60-day full refund guarantee

For shared hosting users, WireNine guarantees 60-day full refund, which is quite appreciated as you can get a long time to try the service out. Note that only hosting fees can be refunded, while all other fees, such as software licensing, domain name and SSL certificate, are not eligible for a refund.

WireNine Shared Hosting Disadvantages 1.00 of 5

After reviewing and analyzing WireNine shared hosting carefully, we find that the two plans have the following demerits and limitations.

Expensive costs but limited resources

There is no denying that both shared hosting plans are expensive. Basic is priced at $10/mo, but it allows hosting 2 websites and includes 10 GB storage only. You can get the same resources and features from many leading web hosts at a cost of less than $5/mo.

Plus is not cost-effective, either. Most shared hosting plans in the market that are priced more than $10/mo include advanced features like a private SSL certificate and dedicated IP, while Plus does not.

The risk of unreliable backups

WireNine promises to back up your website twice a day to keep the data safe. However, the company does not guarantee the accuracy and completeness of backups, and the service can be terminated by the company at any time without notice. Besides, shared hosting accounts with more than 10 GB storage will not be backed up automatically.

No pro-rated refund

WireNine offers 60-day money back guarantee, which is indeed one of the biggest highlights. However, after the first 60 days, you can never get a penny back in any circumstance. As shared hosting providers always promise to give a pro-rated refund at any time, the policy of WireNine seems a little bit unreasonable.

Another downside is that payments made with Bank Wire Transfers, Checks, Money Orders, Western Union Payments and Account Credit Balances are completely non-refundable.
