Price & Package

Price Web.com provides 3 shared hosting packages with no option for VPS or dedicated servers. Named Essential Hosting, Professional Hosting and Premium Hosting, the packages are priced from $9.96/mo, $13.29/mo, $29.13/mo, which are really expensive in the shared hosting field. 1 free domain name is included.

Different from its competitor, iPage has only one shared package as well as virtual private servers and dedicated servers. Priced at $8.95/mo regularly, the package is now available from $1.99/mo for subscribers signing up through the promotional link below. The extras include 1 free domain name, $100 Google AdWords credits, $25 Bing/Yahoo search credits, $50 Facebook advertising credits and free SiteLock add-on which values $100.

Honestly, the service from iPage is much more affordable even when considering the regular price instead of the discounted one.

Feature

Both of Web.com and iPage offer a large number of useful features in their packages. For example, they share similarities in the availability of unlimited monthly data transfer, PHP 5, Perl, MySQL 5, Server Side Includes (SSI), etc. However, they still differ much from each other in the amount of server resources and some other important features.

For control panel, iPage uses vDeck, which is user-friendly with an easy way for managing hosting accounts and websites. On the other hand, Web.com does offer a control panel, but the company publishes no information about the feature, the brand or the type of it. We didn't find much information despite the large efforts made in the process.

Uptime & Speed

Performance Web.com claims to offer 99.99% uptime. As the company does not make clear of the information about the data center facility, network infrastructure or anything else, we have personally monitored several servers and got the result that the uptime averages 99.90% in the past 30 days, good but not as excellent as what the company guarantees.

As the same time, we have been keeping monitoring the server response of the company's service. As the statistics in the past 30 days show, the average time taken for response is 793ms, which is a little bit longer than the average among all the web hosts we have reviewed.

iPage utilizes 2 data centers and equips them with the same high performance servers, 24x7 security and quality network architecture. The featured pooled server environment enables each server to be backed by another one to improve uptime. And the use of application pools gets each element (FTP, website, mail, etc) hosted on separate machines to deliver a faster speed.

According to our monitoring, iPage uptime averages 99.95% in the past month, and the server response speed averages 562ms. Read the following chart for real-time monitoring results.

Technical Support

Technical Support Both of the 2 companies maintain a professional support team to deal with customers' questions and requests. Customers are allowed to access the teams for solutions via email and phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Here comes the difference. For instant real human powered support, Web.com does not support live chat, a common communication channel for webmasters inside and outside the US to seek help. By contrast, iPage inserts a live chat button on the homepage to encourage customers to get their problems solved in a quick way.

Which Web Host Is Better?

We personally recommend iPage which not only offers affordable price, rich features, outstanding uptime and helpful technical support, but also enjoys a high reputation in the market and some other reputable review sites. On the contrary, Web.com fails to stand out because of the expensive hosting service and the lack of information about some of the important things like the specifications and control panel capacity.
