The WordPress plugin selected for this tutorial is Anthologize, a free solution suitable for all types of blogs.

About Anthologize

Anthologize is one of the few free plugins that enable you to turn WordPress blog posts into an eBook. This plugin makes it easy to pull content from your blog, and it allows you to customize the layout. Besides, the document made with it can be exported in multiple formats including PDF, RTF and EPUB.

The disadvantage, however, is that Anthologize maintains a quite low rating in WordPress plugin directory. There are many negative reviews saying the plugin doesn't work. These reviews should draw your attention, but we have experienced no problem when using the plugin.

Since the functionality of Anthologize is great, we'd still suggest you try this plugin.

Convert WordPress Blog Posts into an eBook with Anthologize

To use Anthologize, you should first install the plugin by following the standard WordPress plugin installation method. Then, activate it. The activation will generate an Anthologize menu item in WordPress dashboard.

Create a new eBook

Anthologize works with the structure of project, part and item. The project refers to a "book", which is an eBook in this tutorial; a part equals to a chapter, and an item is a piece of the chapter content. Therefore, upon the plugin activation, you need to click on Anthologize > New Project to start your first eBook.

Create a New Project

On the new page, you need to enter your eBook's name as the project title, provide a subtitle, and then enter the author name optionally. After completing the form, click on "Save Project" to get the project created.

Save Project

Add chapters and content

After being saved, the new project will be listed in "My Projects", and three options are open to you in terms of the management of the project. To add content to your eBook, you need to click on "Manage Parts".

Manage Parts

Before adding blog posts, you need to create a part (chapter) that you want to include in the eBook. Simply click on the "New Part" button and enter a chapter title in it. Each project can include multiple parts.

Add a New Part

On the left side of the screen, you can see a long list of all the published posts on your blog. WordPress posts, pages and custom post types are all supported. To find a post quickly, you can filter your posts by tag, category, post type and more.

To include any of the posts in the new chapter, you only need to drag the post and drop it under the chapter. With the drag-and-drop feature, you can also reorder the items in a part easily.

Add Posts to Chapter

When you are satisfied with all the items within your first chapter, you can add more chapters and pull the needed blog posts to them.

Besides, for each post in the eBook, you are able to edit it by clicking on the "Edit" link. This allows you to edit the post title and any content in it.

Export the eBook

After dealing with all the parts and items, you need to export the project in order to make an eBook. This should be done by clicking on the "Export Project" button.

The export process involves three steps. In the first step, you need to select the project you have created, and enter the copyright information. Several copyright types are available to choose.

After dealing with the required information, click on the "Next" button.

Enter Copyright Information

In the second step, you are able to customize the project title, add dedication and acknowledgements, and select the export format. Five formats are available, and each of them produces a downloadable file.

Select Export Format

Then in the last step, you have to customize the publishing options including the page size, base font size, page break, etc. The decisions are yours. If you are not very determined, you can give some experiments with different options.

Customize Publishing Options

After clicking on the "Export" button, a file in the selected format will be downloaded to your local computer automatically. Then you can open the file to check the content in it. If there is no problem, you can start distributing the new eBook in the way you want.
