Founded in 1999, PowWeb brags about being in the leadership position in the “low cost” web hosting world. Admittedly, it has a long hosting history. Does this mean it is good? With this doubt in mind, we have launched a thorough investigation on PowWeb hosting services.

PowWeb offers one web hosting plan which is named as One Plan. Our editors have carefully studied the purchasing terms, features, performance and quality of customer services related to the plan. In order to make a better judgment, we’ve also collected dozens of customer reviews.

The One Plan is regularly priced at $9.99/mo, which is not cheap for a shared plan. To attract more customers, PowWeb currently offers a 61% discount with which the price drops to $3.88/mo. Note that only new users who sign up for at least 2 years can enjoy this promotional price.

Is the purchasing safe and worry-free? Not really. Although the company offers a 30-day money back guarantee, this guarantee applies to credit-card deals only. What’s worse, when users cancel their accounts, they have to pay a minimum cancellation fee of $35 as well as another $15 for the FREE domain name included.

PowWeb Speed Review 1.50 of 5

PowWeb utilizes some advanced technologies to ensure speedy performance. In specific, it has equipped its data center with BGP4 technology that allows websites to load quickly and give site visitors a smooth experience. It uses reliable hardware produced by Foundry and Juniper, and it also cooperates with multiple Tier 1 providers for a robust network infrastructure.

With these favorable elements, PowWeb is supposed to deliver fast speed. However, the reality presents us a different story. Many customers are complaining about incredibly slow loading speed over the PowWeb Forum. There are two possible reasons for the slow performance. One is that the company is hosting too many accounts on one server; the other is that not all servers are equipped with quality hardware.

PowWeb Reliability Review 2.50 of 5

PowWeb employs a “Load-Balanced Hosting” solution to ensure uptime. Despite the fancy name, the solution is nothing but a common redundant system which distributes the load of a single website across multiple physical servers. In this way, there will always be alternative paths when one server goes down.

But the solution is not heaven. It is not as good as it is promised to be - to eliminate all single points of server failure without producing noticeable effects on end users. In fact, the company does not even make any uptime guarantee. In contrast, reliable hosting providers such as InMotion or HostGator all promise 99.9% uptime and always honor their words by deeds.

PowWeb Feature Review 2.50 of 5

The all-in-one solution comes with plenty of disk space, bandwidth, email accounts and additional features like MySQL, PHP, CGI, SSL, FTP, Site Builder, E-commerce software, marketing tools, etc. Besides, the plan also offers a free domain name if purchased annually.

As for control panel, PowWeb does not include the easy-to-use cPanel in One Plan. Instead, the company has developed its own custom control panel called OPS. We have studied the demo of OPS control panel. The interface looks simple and crude, not a rival for cPanel. Many newbies report to encounter a great deal of inconvenience when they manage their sites with the OPS control panel.

PowWeb Technical Support Review 2.00 of 5

PowWeb offers technical support via toll-free phone, live chat and email and builds forums for community interaction. However, the quality of their support is not very satisfying because most customers only give 2 out of 5 stars for the technical support they have received. Many customers complain that some PowWeb technicians are unprofessional when handling technical issues and ill-mannered when dealing with cancellation cases.
