eBoundHost was launched in 2000 with the aim to provide better hosting services. Having gone through such a long history, today the company is offering several hosting packages including classic hosting, reseller hosting, cloud VPS and Magento cloud.

The largest advantage of eBoundHost is that their prices are quite affordable, especially for the classic hosting plans. However, there are also many bad things. For example, they are not as excellent as what they claim to be. The official site looks simple and not informative, and so far, they have been a small provider with a small management team. They are far from being qualified to be listed as a leading web hosting provider.

From our point of view, we do not recommend eBoundHost for either shared hosting or VPS users. In this eBoundHost review, you can see the detailed reasons by reading the analyses of the uptime, speed, support and pricing.

eBoundHost Speed Review 3.00 of 5

There is no way to find out how many data centers eBoundHost is using because they do not offer such information. What we can say for sure is that the company operates one data center which is located in Chicago, IL.

In order to ensure the server performance, the company builds their own servers with components purchased from some leading brands like Intel and Nvidia. Besides, SSDs are used for MySQL databases, but that's all. The operating system and website files are not accelerated by SSDs.

In terms of the network infrastructure, eBoundHost says that they are partnering with several large network carriers, including AboveNet, Level(3), AT&T and Savvis. The optimal route is selected automatically based on whether the website visitors are located, and in the unlikely occasion that a network goes down, the traffic is routed to another one.

To be honest, eBoundHost is quite fast in most times for most US locations, according to the reports of our monitoring system. However, some servers may slow down suddenly for unknown reasons. Below is a piece of the monitoring results.

eBoundHost Reliability Review 2.00 of 5

eBoundHost services are secure. Even shared hosting users can gain access to multiple security features which are effective in fighting against hacking, malware, and brute force attacks. These features include an integrated CSF firewall, automatic malware detection, DDoS protection, and expert hack fixes.

However, regarding uptime, this web host does not perform well. Even though they claim that their network is fully redundant, and the data centers feature dual power feeds and on-site diesel power generators, the uptime records are not good.

Among the hundreds of web hosts we have reviewed, eBoundHost is the only one that promises to have been delivering 100% uptime for more than a decade (Is that possible?) To better persuade new customers, they also offer a 100% uptime guarantee. Note that although this guarantee is an SLA, it is not explained what compensation you will gain if there is a failure.

According to some customer reviews as well as the uptime records we have obtained, downtime is not rare with eBoundHost. For the shared classic hosting, the uptime hardly reaches 99.9%, not to mention 100%. The situation of cloud VPS is better, but 100% uptime is still seldom achieved.

You can read the most recent monitoring statistics of eBoundHost classic hosting in below.

eBoundHost Technical Support Review 1.50 of 5

eBoundHost support team is based in Chicago. When an issue arises, you are able to get in touch with a real person who can help by making a call or opening a ticket. Support services are available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. But are these the proof that eBoundHost technical support is good? Of course not.

In fact, the support services offered by this web host are not comprehensive, which is reflected in our trials and customer reviews. The reasons for this statement are listed in below.
  • eBoundHost does not offer a knowledgebase. Even FAQs are not available, which is unreasonable. This means you have to contact the support team every time there is a simple billing or control panel issue.
  • Live chat is not accessible as a support method.
  • The company does not provide any user forum, which means no interaction.
  • No video tutorial is available, though mainstream providers have already been working hard to offer helpful visual tutorials for their users.
  • Many users have complained that the support team does not show responsibility when uptime issues are reported to them. Usually no explanation or detailed information is offered, and the support representatives always say everything is working fine.

eBoundHost Classic Hosting Plans 2.50 of 5

Classic hosting is a popular product of eBoundHost that is offered at the shared hosting level. At present, there are two plans which are named One and Unlimited. Just as the names indicate, One allows hosting a single domain, and Unlimited allows an unlimited number of domains. Other differences between the plans are presented in below.
  • One: $1/mo, including 10 GB disk space, 1000 GB bandwidth, 100 emails, and 1000 pages.
  • Unlimited: $4/mo, including unlimited disk space, bandwidth, emails and pages.
Except for the resources, the two plans have many features in common, such as:
  • cPanel control panel & 1-click installation of 50+ applications including WordPress, Drupal, Joomla and PrestaShop.
  • PHP 5.3/5.4, Perl, Python 2.6, Ruby on Rails & MySQL 5.5.
  • Free website migration assistance.
Also, there are some common shortages of the plans. For example,
  • No advertising credits or marketing tools are offered.
  • Domain registrations are expensive. Even a .com domain is priced at $14.99 per year.
  • eBoundHost does not provide site backups, so it is completely the users' responsibility to protect themselves from disasters.

eBoundHost Cloud VPS Hosting Plans 2.50 of 5

Cloud VPS is the most important product of eBoundHost. To ensure scalability, the company offers 6 plans. And now, all of the plans come with full server management and monitoring, which means the management team maintains the operating system and installs the kernel updates and core service patches.

Below are the details about some of the Cloud VPS plans.
  • $25/mo for 1 CPU core, 1.5 GB RAM, 50 GB disk space and 2 TB bandwidth.
  • $40/mo for 2 CPU cores, 3 GB RAM, 100 GB disk space and 3 TB bandwidth.
  • $50/mo for 4 CPU cores, 5 GB RAM, 200 GB disk space and 5 TB bandwidth.
  • $99/mo for 8 CPU cores, 9 GB RAM, 600 GB disk space and 10 TB bandwidth.
Except for the cheapest $25/mo plan, all other plans include a free cPanel license. However, there are still some common features, such as root access and PCI compliance.

The largest disadvantage of the Cloud VPS plans, however, is that they do not allow full customization of the server resources. You cannot decide the amount of RAM, storage, bandwidth or CPU, so you may cost extra fees for the unneeded resources when making an upgrade.

eBoundHost Money Back Guarantee 3.50 of 5

eBoundHost has favorable refund policies. It allows 90-day full refund for classic hosting, 30-day full refund for Cloud VPS, and offers a pro-rated refund for the used services if someone cancels the hosting account after the guaranteed period.

Alternatives to eBoundHost 4.50 of 5

eBoundHost offerings are somewhat affordable in the market, but the poor uptime and support make them not a good choice for webmasters seeking quality hosting solutions. For better options, we have the following suggestions.
  • Cloud VPS: A2Hosting is recommended as it offers more flexible plans at cheaper prices which start from $9.89/mo. Free IP address and software installer are included. If you want more information, follow this link.
  • Shared hosting: The following three web hosts are the recommendations as they are reputable, affordable, and helpful. Thousands and millions of webmasters are relying on them for online presence.
