AwardSpace is a Germany based web hosting company offering hosting solutions mainly for Europe and North America. The service range covers free web hosting, paid web hosting, VPS, domain name registration and SSL certificates.

Over the past 12 years, AwardSpace has been using only one data center to power all of its services. Located in LambdaNet, Kiel, Germany, the data center is claimed to be an Internet backbone between Europe and North America. Backed by top-of-the-line hardware and a clustered hosting platform, AwardSpace is able to deliver a stable hosting experience without much serious downtime.

As a company proud of software development, AwardSpace has developed multiple tools to assist its users in managing and hosting their applications and websites. The custom-built ZackyTools Installer gains many praises as it is very helpful in installing applications. The only demerit of the installer is that it supports 7 open source software only. But fortunately, WordPress, Drupal and Joomla are all included.

AwardSpace has also made a custom website builder and provides it as a part of the hosting packages. The builder supports a 4-step website building process – selecting a template, picking pre-made web pages, entering website and user information, and at last, previewing the website.

AwardSpace Speed Review 2.50 of 5

The uptime of AwardSpace is good, but the situation is a little bit different for speed. The company claims that they can ensure fast speed for users in North America, while our testing results tell the truth that you can not expect much. The speed for Europe is excellent, but that for America is somewhat slow.

AwardSpace Technical Support Review 2.00 of 5

On its official website, AwardSpace offers 3 communication channels for users to contact its team, including a phone number, a live chat button and email. But if you are careful enough, you can find that all of the methods are only available for sales contact.

In terms of technical support, there are also 3 ways for figuring out issues: FAQs, the Need Help Areas, and a ticket system. The former 2 options are self-help solutions for basic learning and troubleshooting. Only by opening a support ticket can you get a response from a real person. The communication channels are very limited, but the responsiveness is not bad.

AwardSpace Free Web Hosting Review 2.00 of 5

AwardSpace offers a free web hosting plan for the purpose of expanding its user base. The plan includes 250 MB disk space, 5 GB bandwidth, 1 email account and 1 MySQL database. Also, only 1 domain is allowed to host with the plan. This solution is suitable for newbies with completely no requirements on website size and site traffic.

Pros of AwardSpace free web hosting:
  • No hosting fee & no ads displayed on the hosted websites.
  • ZackyTools Installer for easy app installation.
Cons of AwardSpace free web hosting:
  • No network uptime guarantee.
  • Very limited storage and data transfer & no website builder.
  • You might be asked to upgrade to a paid plan several days after opening a free account.

AwardSpace Paid Web Hosting Review 3.50 of 5

AwardSpace has 2 types of shared hosting: standard shared hosting and semi-managed hosting. The former is designed for hosting one or several websites with light traffic, while the latter is for hosting one high-traffic website or multiple medium-sized websites.

Both types of services include 3 upgradable plans. The standard shared hosting plans, named Basic, Web Pro Plus and Max Pack Plus, all come with unlimited disk space and bandwidth. Free domains are offered in the 2 advanced plans except Basic. The prices of the plans are $2.99/mo, $4.57/mo, $5.83/mo respectively for initial term, and $4.99/mo, $6.65/mo, $9.99/mo for renewal.

The semi-dedicated hosting plans work in the similar way like VPS. They are packed with dedicated disk space and RAM, but the control over the server is limited. Starter, the primary plan, includes 30 GB disk space and 350 GB bandwidth, priced at $14.99/mo.

Pros of AwardSpace paid web hosting:
  • More server resources than the free plan & at least 1 free domain for life (except for Basic).
  • AwardSpace website builder & ZackyTools Installer.
  • 99.9% network uptime guarantee & 30-day refund guarantee.
Cons of AwardSpace paid web hosting:
  • High cost: The prices for both standard shared hosting and semi-dedicated hosting are much more expensive than other plans in the market with the same features.
  • Unsatisfactory speed for American users.
  • Separate custom control panels for domain and web hosting.

AwardSpace VPS Hosting Review 3.00 of 5

AwardSpace offers 3 VPS hosting plans called Starter VPS, Pro VPS and Advanced VPS at the prices of $10/mo, $20/mo and $40/mo. There is no discount for any billing cycle. The disk space allotted to the plans is 25 GB, 50 GB and 100 GB respectively; the amounts of RAM are 1 GB, 2 GB and 4 GB, and bandwidth is 2 TB, 4 TB and 8 TB.
  • Pros: a high level of server control & all other benefits brought by a standard VPS.
  • Cons: All packages are unmanaged, requiring server management skills.
